Classic Weymouth & Dorset Delights
Oh, we do love to be beside the seaside…
We are delighted to offer you a break away to the charming, seaside town of Weymouth. With its sandy beach dotted with colourful beach huts, beautiful Georgian houses, the Jurassic Skyline observation viewing tower and the Victorian Nothe Fort harbour views, you will enjoy a fabulous holiday away with us. Visit Weymouth Sealife Park, home to sharks, turtles and stingrays or take the causeway which leads to Portland Island with its lighthouse and birdlife. Weymouth is an amazing coastal destination, where you can soak up views of the spectacular Jurassic Coastline, enjoy walks along the esplanade or head into the town and browse its independent retailers and the high street names you know and love.
Day 1 - Departure: 0830 – 1000 hrs. We travel to Dorset making a comfort stop en-route. Once we check-in at the hotel and you are comfortable, there will be free time in Weymouth. Dinner is included for the next 3 nights.
Day 2 - We head off for a visit to the amazing Abbotsbury Swannery; the ancient home, and the only place in the world where you can walk through the heart of a managed colony of nesting mute swans.
Within a stunning setting on the Dorset coast, this unique natural habitat was established in the 1040s, and today is regarded as one of the must-see attractions in the area. You can wander among up to 600 swans, with hand feeding taking place daily accompanied by informative commentary from the keepers. Our next stop is a very short distance: - Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens. The history of Abbotsbury is tied closely with the creation of the monastery that once dominated the village and the Fox-Strangways family. The Gardens are a mixture of formal and informal flowers, world famous for its Camellia groves, Rhododendrons, Hydrangeas and Magnolias. Facilities include the Colonial Restaurant, a quality gift shop and a fantastic plant centre where many of the flowers grown in the garden can be purchased. Upon return to Weymouth you will have the afternoon at your leisure.
Day 3 - We head out after breakfast to the lively seaside town of Swanage. Swanage offers real Victorian charm and its stunning sandy beach constantly achieves the enviable Blue Flag status. You may choose to relax with your feet in the sand or there are plenty of restaurants and tea rooms to enjoy. Our next point of interest will be the secluded horse-shoe shaped bay Lulworth Cove, created by the force of the sea thousands of years ago. Unwind on the pebble beach and enjoy the views from this breath-taking location. To hear more about its history, which dates back to 150 million years ago, visit the Lulworth Cove Heritage Centre.
Day 4 – We depart after breakfast, making a lunch stop (lunch not included) at Lyndhurst, known as the "Capital of the New Forest". With a wealth of exciting history and once the regular haunt of Kings and Queens of England, we shall take a short tour of The New Forest before continuing our travel back to Berkshire. Arriving home: teatime.
